An effective way to learn English through play, with the help of a lively teddy bear and a committed teacher.
The method is based on a variety of teaching techniques. The coursebook contains a multitude of texts in the form of stories, rhymes and songs, which serve as a rich source of vocabulary and phrases. It helps our students to recognise, understand and assimilate the context of sentences – something that is crucial when learning a language, which is, after all, a means of communication.
We place great emphasis on frequent repetition, consolidation and listening comprehension. In Teddy Eddie classes, and verbal cues are reinforced with movement and gesture, helping to engage young learners in playful activities.
Children quickly accept that English is used to communicate and do not view learning the language as an artificial process. With the right encouragement, they try to express themselves in English without being afraid of making mistakes.
English is more than just a collection of individual words! The learning process is based on sentences, texts and longer utterances, and focuses on the natural use and manipulation of language. Which is exactly what the Teddy Eddie method is all about.
Parents can expect to have regular contact with the teacher and are kept up to date with their child’s progress. The teacher sums up the group’s work after each class, sends out a weekly email to parents, and prepares a comprehensive report at the end of each term.
Followed by Savvy Ed and Edward’s League for older children, Teddy Eddie is the first of our methods that together make up a challenging learning pathway. This ensures a consistently high level of language teaching and means that our students have the best possible chance of passing their Cambridge exams.

Teddy Eddie is a method designed specifically for very young learners, which explains why it is so much fun. Teaching language through funny stories, entertaining songs and colourful materials is an enjoyable experience and a great way for children to acquire English effortlessly. We know that our little learners have enormous language potential and we help them make the most of it. We have developed a dedicated app for the course to make it easier for kids to consolidate what they have learnt in class.
A friendly little bear who can only speak English motivates children to learn.
Teddy Eddie classes are play-based and taught in small groups.
We aim to ensure the balanced development of language skills, with a strong focus on communication!
With our educational app, children enjoy practising what they learn in class.
Teddy Eddie is a licensed method of teaching English to preschool kids and first graders. Our aim is to combine ambitious educational requirements with lots of fun and a cheerful, relaxed classroom environment.
Teddy Eddie classes are full of carefully designed games and activities that facilitate comprehensive language development and help children build intrinsic motivation for language learning – all in the company of the course protagonist, a playful teddy bear who lives in a colourful sock, and under the supervision of a committed teacher.
Teddy Eddie students are given access to our educational app, the Playground. Using this app, children (and their parents) can enjoy a great variety of interactive games to help them consolidate the material learnt in class. They can also listen to all the class recordings.
Through regular use of the Playground resources, children are able to master essential vocabulary and phrases faster and more easily, which gives them greater confidence in the classroom. Plus, using the app is lots of fun for young learners!

In our experience, this frequency and format of classes is acceptable to parents and absolutely essential for very young learners. Your child needs regular exposure to the language and an appropriate level of interaction which online classes cannot provide. The play-based approach we recommend requires the presence of a teacher and a group of peers. Your child will also greatly benefit from spending time in a new peer group.
The outcomes of Teddy Eddie classes differ slightly depending on the level. Please refer to the “Levels” page for a more detailed description.
Our first aim is for the child to enjoy the classes: we want kids to fall in love with the English language. Only then can we start working on the language outcomes. And although they are not easy to measure, the Teddy Eddie method has a number of tools to help monitor the progress of young learners. Firstly, we prioritise parent-teacher contact, communication and collaboration. As part of their Education Pack, each student receives a Parent’s Guide which contains information about the basic skills and knowledge that the child will acquire during the course. At the end of each class, teachers invite parents for a brief 2-minute review of what was covered in class that day, and each week they send out a report by email. Once a term, parents are invited to a demo class, where they receive a full descriptive progress report.
Teddy Eddie teachers undergo a multi-stage induction programme. They are thoroughly trained in the method, know how to conduct classes and are familiar with the requirements of our quality standard. They also have access to attractive course materials, which means they can really focus on building positive associations with the English language and sharing their knowledge. Each teacher is supervised by a methodology consultant who regularly attends and observes classes.
Any form of parental involvement in a child’s learning has a huge positive impact on their performance, so we strongly recommend using the Playground app at all levels.
The app is user-friendly, which means that older children can use it on their own, and even the mandatory Superhero level tasks can easily be completed with minimal parental help and encouragement.
